The idea behind wedding favors is a good one. It’s a way to thank your guests for joining you in the celebration, a small memento of their time with you on your big day. I’ve seen a guest or two look around bewildered, searching for the gift they surely knew would be waiting for them at the table (Don’t worry, they were simply placed at a separate table).
The key to helping this tradition have less of an impact on our environment is choosing gifts, made from eco-friendly materials, which most of your guests will actually use. Here are a few ideas:
* Handmade, all natural soaps
* Plants: Give tree seedlings, flowers or herbs that your guests can keep potted or replant outside. (At Tree Beginnings, you can choose from natural burlap or eco-friendly boxes)
* Seeds: Loose or in plantable paper, which is available in dozens of shapes, like hearts and butterflies.
* In lieu of: Make a donation to your favorite charity or plant a tree in your guests’ names. Remember to choose eco-friendly packaging too. Use, biodegradable plant-based plastics; seed, recycled and kraft paper boxes; bags made from natural and recycled fabrics and avoid tags if you can to eliminate extra paper waste.
